Deer Camp

One of my favorite places on the planet is Deer Camp, the hunting camp that my grandfather, father, uncle, and brother, as well as many of my cousins have been going to since the 1930's. It sits at the end of a rocky road at the top of a mountain and we non-hunters visit it at least once a year, in early fall, for the annual chicken barbecue. Thank God the outhouse has been supplemented by some indoor facilities. That used to be the worst--having to use the outhouse at Deer Camp! The smell alone could kill you! But we always had fun running through the woods, fishing in the little streams and just hanging out.
When I think of communing with nature, I think of Deer Camp.
